Review: My Heart Belongs in San Francisco, California by Janice Thompson

About the Book

Journey now to San Francisco, California, of 1853 where…
An English socialite finds more treasure than expected on her trip to the American West.

When Abby Effingham becomes stranded in the middle of the California gold rush, her money depletes quickly even while her prospects for marriage increase daily. But Abby is on a mission to find her mother—not romance. Will a ridiculous scandal keep her from traveling on, or will it wake up an aloof innkeeper to the treasure right under his roof?

Samuel Harris runs a moderately priced hotel where Abby and her family’s elderly butler find shelter. He is looking forward to when she—and her parade of suitors—move on, though he concedes to let her work in his restaurant. When the sassy socialite is in trouble, will Samuel come to her rescue or find himself alone?

About the Author

My name is Janice Thompson. (You will find me published under Janice HannaJanice Hanna ThompsonJanice A. Thompson as well.)

I’m a Christian freelance author of novels, non-fiction books, magazine articles and musical comedies for the stage. I live in the Houston area, where the heat and humidity tend to reign, regardless of the season.

I’m a writer by trade, but wear many other hats, as well. Currently, I spend a lot of my time working as a freelance editor and teaching writing. I enjoy public speaking (promoting books, or teaching from the Bible). Please see my speaking topics page for more information. These days I’m also very busy with my new online writing course, “Becoming a Successful Freelance Writer.” To learn more, visit my site: www.freelancewritingcourses.com

I’ve been writing since childhood. In fact, the first novel I remember crafting was in the sixth grade. I had consumed every Bobbsey Twins book on the shelves and ached for another one, so I created a new adventure for the characters I had grown to love. Of course, I was far too young to understand the concept of plagiarism at that time! I started writing “seriously” in the early 90’s. Since then, I’ve been blessed to have nearly fifty articles published, along with several novels. (Source: Goodreads Author Page)

My Review

I found this to be a delightful story. I enjoyed the characters, they were varied in their personalities and had a quality of “realness” to them. It was easy to envision the interactions. I felt like I was one of the customers in the dining room enjoying the action.

I would definitely recommend this to those who enjoy historical fiction. Janice Thompson is a strong writer and this is another example of her engaging stories.

New Book Watch: Reach for Me: Contemporary Christian Romance with Suspense by Jan Thompson

About this Book

He has left his homeland to protect his family.
She has fled her hometown to abandon hers.
A mountaintop experience brings an optimist and a pessimist together in the valleys of their lives.

REACH FOR ME is book 2 in USA Today bestselling author Jan Thompson’s Vacation Sweethearts collection of contemporary Christian romance novels celebrating the immeasurable grace and undeserved mercy of God. These Vacation Sweethearts novels are a spin-off of Jan’s inspirational Savannah Sweethearts series.

In his valley of determination…

His friends call him O’Tierney the Optimist. Even after having lost two legs and an arm in a bomb blast and having undergone numerous reconstructive surgeries, disabled United Kingdom Special Forces veteran Keenan O’Tierney is excited about facing unknown new challenges.

Honorably discharged due to his heroism in fighting terrorism on behalf of his grateful nation, Keenan has given enough to his country. Yet, the enemies have been going after him and his team in an act of personal revenge. To protect his family, Keenan leads a trail away from Britain.

He hides in a remote resort in the misty mountains of Tennessee. As long as he keeps away from his loved ones, they are not in danger from those vendettas.

Up in these mountains, Keenan could stay off the grid and remain incognito. When the storm passes by, Keenan wants to go home to his large and extended family in Ireland, and retire for good.

In her valley of discouragement…

Bearing the burden of a mistake-riddled life, prodigal adopted daughter Phoebe Pace has nowhere to go. She finds solace in the Great Smoky Mountains, living in quiet regret, not forgiving herself, and being unable to ask God to forgive her. She thinks her days are purposeless, with her job at the funeral home not improving her grim outlook on life.

And now the most good-looking guy Phoebe has ever met is staying at a log cabin two doors down from hers. She has no intention of seeking friendship outside her small, safe circle of friends, while wallowing in her own remorse that is no one else’s business.

What is she going to do with her new neighbor encroaching on her favorite swing—and drinking her favorite coffee!—on the mountaintop porch overlooking spectacular vistas they both now share?

Just when Phoebe begins to think that she might open up her heart to Keenan, the ex-soldier’s unfinished business pulls her into other people’s problems, and the danger comes knocking…on the wrong door.
