About this Book
The daughter of a pagan priestess believes Noah’s prophecy…especially when she discovers the horrifying secret behind her city’s primary export. Belief in the One God is dangerous in Cainlan, a city founded on the worship of the god Cain. But when Eliana meets the son of a religious fanatic she is drawn to Shem’s caring manner and deep faith. She believes his assertion that the One God will wipe the earth clean of the corruption that fills it, especially when she discovers a terrifying secret known only to those high in the government’s ruling council. Though desperate to escape her destiny, Eliana’s life has been preordained. Not even Shem’s God can rescue her from the fate for which she was born – becoming the next high priestess to Cain.

One of the things that makes the story of Noah great for fiction is we don’t know much details about Noah, his family, or what the culture was like during this timeframe, other than it was full of corruption. This gives an author a lot of freedom to develop a story. The author did a great job of developing an interesting and touching story.
I think my favorite character was Shem. He was a strong man with a deep love and conviction to his family and to his God. But yet he was honest about his doubts and his struggles, which made him very believable. I can’t imagine what life was like for Noah’s family as they built the ark. Eliana was also an excellent character as she struggled with her heritage and her destiny in light of what she learned the truth about her mother, husband and the One God. The supporting characters, Jarrell, Bitra, and Devon also added a special dimension to the story with their subplots.
This story with its subplots made it a real page turner that I had a tough time putting it down. The imagery surrounding building the ark as well as some humor that is a natural part of a building project like an ark and the idea of dealing with all those animals brought some lightness to the story. The thing that impressed me most is the night after finishing the book, I dreamed about it. I’ve never read a book that caused me to dream.
