Illusion–Frank Peretti

192670: Illusion Illusion
By Frank Peretti / Howard Books

Magicians Dane and Mandy Collins are about to retire when a car accident claims Mandy’s life. A grieving Dane goes to see a new magic act—and is shocked to find a 19-year-old version of his Mandy. When the two reunite, can they uncover the conspiracy behind their meeting, Mandy’s supernatural magic, and who’s following them? 576 pages, hardcover from Howard.

My Review: Let me just start by saying “HE’S BAAAACK!”  It’s been a while since Frank Peretti has released a book and I have to say his last couple weren’t my favorites. And when I started this one I had some questions about this one. But as the story progressed I was sucked into this story.

First a look at the main characters. I quickly found myself relating to Dane’s pain. He lost the love of his life after nearly 40 years of marriage. At times in the story he was ready to give up on life, but something kept pushing him forward. The young and talented magician, Eloise Karmer. Not only was she a reminder of his late wife but she brought a freshness to the magic that kept not only her audiences captivated but Dane as well. Eloise was also an enjoyable character to follow in this story. She carried a tremendous burden on her shoulders and didn’t understand what was going on in her life.

The storyline was unique to say the least. I don’t want to give too much away, but early on I had my doubts about where the story would go and would I really like it.  But as I read and Mr. Peretti started revealing little tidbits of what was happening I wanted to know more. I wanted to know how the story would end. And I held my breath toward the end of this story not sure how he would end it.

If you’ve been a Frank Peretti fan I have little doubt that you will find this one of his best stories.  If you’ve never read Frank Peretti, shame on you!  Just kidding. If you’ve never read his books before and you like an adventure that’s a little “out of this world” then you’ll enjoy this story.

I love to read, especially mystery books. Though in the past couple of years I've been a part of the ACFW Book Club and have found some wonderful writers. It's been fun to interact with authors.

  1. I am looking forward to reading this. Sounds intriguing. I loved the This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness books. I haven’t read anything by Frank since then. So, I’m interested to see how this book compares. I want to be entered into the giveaway, please.

  2. When I worked at Book Warehouse, before they closed down so many years ago, I remember seeing This Present Darkness on the shelf. I did pick it up once and browsed through it while working, but I never got around to buying a copy. Since then I’ve wondered about his writing but still never picked up another of his books.
The above blog makes me curious now. I will definitely have to check on his books.
