|Downfall, Intervention Series #3
By Terri Blackstock / Zondervan
Although Emily Covington has kicked the drug addiction through rehab, she knows she has a lot to prove. Her behavior through years on drugs makes it hard for her family to completely trust her. Then the police discover a home made bomb under Emily’s car and she also discovers the wife of one of her friends was murdered that same morning, she knows things are deadly serious. But who wants Emily dead? And why?
Review Summary: Terri Blackstock is a master storyteller. She once again weaves a story that immediately draws you in and keeps you there until the very end. Her characters are real and believable, that are dealing with real life problems. This story does end with a happily ever after moment, that those us who have read the first two books will cheer! Although, I think you would enjoy this story if you’ve not read the first two, you’ll have a deeper appreciation for the characters and the story having read the first two.
Digging a little deeper: I was excited to read the third installment of the Intervention series and I was not disappointed. In true Blackstock fashion the action is fast paced and intense and her characters are true to real life, flawed.
Emily Covington is two years clean and sober, now living in Atlanta with her Mom and brother, Lance, she is college and working at Haven House, a drug rehab center. I have so enjoyed watching Emily’s progression from hardcore druggie to where she is in this story. She shows that just turning over your life to Christ and going through rehab doesn’t take away the desire to go back to the drugs. She is very real with her struggles.
Barbara Covington made me a little crazy at times with her bend to hysteria, then again, if I had to go through what she had I might get a little crazy too. Barbara is a mother who deeply loves her children and wants to protect them.
As I already mentioned the action is fast paced. This author knows how to captivate her readers and keep them to the end. She also doesn’t show her hand too early on who the bad “guy†is.
I love Terri Blackstocks’ series, it always you to get to know the characters and fall in love with them.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good mystery. If you haven’t read books one and two of the series I would encourage you to do so. You would enjoy this story regardless, but having read the earlier books you’ll have a deeper understanding of the characters.
I would like to thank Zondervan Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this book. I was under no obligation to give anything but my honest opinion.
