|Nick of Time, A Bug Man Series #6
By Tim Downs / Thomas Nelson
Tying the knot may be the toughest thing Nick Polchak has ever tried to do. Nick Polchak is comfortable with bugs. Their world is orderly. He knows where he stands and exactly how to interpret the signs they give him. But a fiancé and an upcoming wedding? Not so much.
That’s why-a mere four days before the nuptials-Nick finds himself driving to Philadelphia for the monthly meeting of the Vidocq society. Being among a group of forensic professionals consulting on cold cases will surely allow him to feel useful and normal.
But while there he discovers that a close friend has been murdered . . . and in classic Nick style, begins to follow the trail of evidence rather than returning to his fiancé. Fearing that his one-track mind won’t lead him home by Saturday, Alena and three of her dogs go to track him down. When she finally finds him, nothing is as Alena expected . . . because the twists in this case will surprise even the most dedicated Bug Man fans.
My Review – I can honestly say this series gets better and better with EVERY book! I remember reading the first book Shoofly Pie back in 2007, I had bought the book because of my love of CSI’s character Gil Grissmon. I wasn’t overly impressed, but decided to keep going and this book was just a WOW!
Nick is days from getting married when he finds that his friend and colleague had been murdered apparently while working on a cold case. Nick can’t resist following the trail no matter where it takes him. All the while his fiancé, Alena, is going crazy! I must say a hearty THANK YOU for all of you who read Ends of the Earth in time to vote for who Nick should propose to, you did an excellent job! (I didn’t read that book soon enough to vote.) Alena is a perfect match for Nick. She is a strong woman with a great head on her shoulders but deep inside she’s a lady who loves Nick.
I also love how Mr. Downs brings characters from previous books back to the story, including a former love interest. I love Nathan and Macy Donavon who have made several appearances in the Bug Man series as well as having their own story told in Plague Maker.
This story will keep you entertained and guessing. Mr. Downs also offers a nice twist or two as well. You will also appreciate the growth of character you will see in Nick. As I have noticed in other of Mr. Downs’ this book is not overtly Christian. But the flip side is you still get an excellent story that is clean reading.
