Predator – Terri Blackstock

The back cover: When Krista Carmichael’s sister is killed by an online predator, she turns herself into “bait” to flush out the murderer. Ryan Adkins never expected his billion-dollar GrapeVyne social network to become a stalking ground, so he joins forces with Krista to bring the killer to justice. But who will protect them when the tables turn?

My Review: From the opening page Terri Blackstock grabs and she doesn’t let go of you until the end. Grant it I’m partial to Terri Blackstock having read 22 of her books. But I think this is probably her best one ever. It deals with a relevant topic, social media and the potential dangers it brings. The story is well written with strong characters.

But this book is more than a well-written story; it’s a harsh reminder of the dangers that lurk in social media. Ella posted everything she did and thought faithfully on her “Grapevyne Thought Bubble” this lead her killer right to her at the right moment. How many of us have posted TMI (Too much information) on our Facebook status or Twitter account?  How many of us have children, especially daughters who are posted their lives for all to see? How many of us and our children have online “friends” that we don’t really know? Do we know what are children are doing online? This story is a wakeup call to women and parents everywhere. Posting too much personal information online is dangerous. Know what your kids are doing online.  If you don’t understand the internet get educated.

I love to read, especially mystery books. Though in the past couple of years I've been a part of the ACFW Book Club and have found some wonderful writers. It's been fun to interact with authors.

  1. I read this book and loved it! It’s a very enlightening look at social media, and disturbing. I have changed my settings to extremely strict. I still think most people don’t understand the dangers. I would love to win a copy of this book to loan to friends.

  2. It’s kind of a frightening subject, considering how possible something like that is. We take care on the internet to only go to reliable websites, and use firewalls and virus and ad-blocking software. My children don’t go online without permission and are warned to not give personal information out. I am on Facebook, but have my privacy settings about as high as they can be, and block anyone from seeing my personal information except my closest friends. Even then, there’s not much personal information available. People think I’m overreacting, but I think exercising caution on the internet is a wise thing. Basically, you’re inviting the rest of the world into your home, and you don’t know who is out there listening.

  3. I’m new to your site and enjoy Christian fiction and non-fiction. I haven’t had the chance to read any of Terri Blackstock’s books yet, and would love to be added to your giveaway for what looks like a very good book. I hope that many will learn the danger that is lurking out there and be more careful and attentive to what is on their children’s computer. It is scary! Thank you!

  4. Love the review.
Too many people put out to much information of themselves and their loved ones out for all to see. Less is Best.
Thank you for the chance to win.

  5. I have only read a few of Terry Blackstone’s books, but I always enjoy reading them as does my 21 y/o daughter. The subject intersts me as I have a facebook account along with my 4 children. (ages 18 to 29) I’d love to receive the book for free!

  6. I would love to be entered in this giveaway! I am a big fan of Terry Blackstock. And we always have strict standards on our computer for the internet. It is so easy to have problems. Thanks!

  7. I have been listening to Terri Blackstock’s books with downloadable audio books from libraries in my area for years…. She is one of my absolute favorites… This subject matter is important and so timely. Thanks for this opportunity to win one of her books.
I also enjoyed the links on how to stay safe while on social internet sites…. My fav is… ‘Don’t tell strangers that no one’s home.’
    Thanks again. ~m~
