I won this book from one of the great blogs I follow http://wordvessel.blogspot.com/
I was very excited because I’ve worked with Joseph Bentz for many years at Azusa Pacific University.
This was a very enjoyable story. I enjoyed the way Joe told the story, first person from the point of view of the main characters. It was a great reminder of how we often interpret actions and words very differently than they way they were intended.
This story takes you through a family’s struggles to deal with loss, illness, and misplaced loyalty. Chris LaRue returns home to face his father’s illness, but he must confront the pain from the past. He also has to learn to truly forgive the past.
A Son Comes Home is a well written story, with some surprises as well as a few predictable endings. There were a few places when the story went a little more detailed about an event than I really felt necessary. Yet, Joe paints the event and you can see yourself sitting in the midst of your own family with their quirks and quarrels.
I would recommend this story for anyone who enjoys a heartwarming family story that includes subtle reminders about forgiveness and the importance of family support and love.
