My Review

I love the Psalms, reading and studying them and Psalm 119 is probably my second favorite (after Psalm 100). So when I saw this book I wanted to check it out. I must say I am glad I did!

The author takes the 22 sections of Psalm 119 into 22 chapters designed to be read one chapter per week. Each chapter is divided into five daily readings, with a brief overview at the beginning of each chapter. Each of the daily readings covers one or two verses of the section.

Each of the daily readings are short but powerful. The author ties New Testament verses to aspects outlined in the Psalm. The author also quotes the New Testament verses he uses making it a self contained allowing for an easier read.

Probably the most fascinating thing about this book is the author has written songs for each section of Psalm 119. He used the songs to memorize the entire Psalm. As a musician and former worship leader this concept intrigued me. When I saw the CD available on Amazon I purchased. Overall, I enjoyed the songs. Several of them have a jazz feel to them that I really enjoy. A couple of them are styles that I really don’t enjoy, but the idea of being able to memorize the entire 119th Psalm I can deal with styles I don’t enjoy.

Disclaimer: The publisher, provided this book to me for free in exchange for an honest review. HOWEVER, I have preorder the book (should receive it Friday)and purchased the MP3 CD.
